What does it mean to BE Panamanian? For starters, it can mean being a “niche”. The title of this editorial product can be read in English, but it’s meant to be understood in Spanish. The word NICHE (pronounced NEE-CHE), is used in Latin American countries such as Venezuela, Panama, and Colombia to define something of low status, of tacky behavior or that has
bad taste. For years it has been used as a derogatory word to point out what does not meet standards of good taste and high culture. The use of this name in Spanish to give life to this project is an ironic exercise of proudly claiming what at some point has made us “niches” and now in one way or another is considered cool.
